schwarzfunk was originally launched by uboot.com (an Azzurro daughter company) in late 2004 in Germany and Austria – to complement and monetarize the mobile internet usage of the uboot community. The Austrian schwarzfunk tariff was discontinued in 2005.

Due to the new orientation of the social network of uboot.com and the great possibilities in the German mobile market the schwarzfunk assets were transferred to the newly founded company schwarzfunk gmbh. – a 100 % daughter company of Azzurro. schwarzfunk has terminated the prepaid tariff as of September 2008 and is focussing exclusively on the development of the introduction of the weissfunk postpaid tariff in Germany. weissfunk is a specially tailored offering adressing the needs of customers with problematic credit history – there are approx. 7.8 million such potential customers in Germany, and weissfunk is the first clearly and professionally focussed offering for this niche market.
